Testimonials

Curatorial staff had worked with Daryn for years on a variety of projects, including exhibition planning and collection surveys, so when it was time for us to move our entire museum and archival collections to a new building I knew Daryn would be a great fit. She worked tirelessly with me to prepare our collections for the big move, carefully analyzing, arranging and rehousing materials to make for the smoothest possible transition. Her dedication to the project and good humor through the challenging bits contributed greatly to its success.

Our home was meticulously researched by Dr. Daryn Reyman-Lock. She provided us with a detailed report on the architectural history as well as the genealogical history of our home. Her discoveries have breathed new life into our home, making us love and appreciate its history even more. If you are looking for someone to dig deep and explore the history of your home, we highly recommend Dr. Reyman-Lock.

As Programs and Educational Coordinator for the Norwalk Historical Society, I have had the pleasure of working along side Dr. Daryn Reyman-Lock for the past two years. As guest curator for two of the Society’s exhibits, she easy to work with and willing to hear my input regarding the integration of the new exhibits into the Society’s established field trip program, which takes place in the exhibit space. Dr. Reyman-Lock was very accommodating to the needs of the program. We worked together to align aspects of the exhibits to the program’s goals. I thoroughly enjoyed working with her and look forward to working with her on future projects at the historical society.

I have had the pleasure of working with Daryn over years as the owner of a historic property, as a board member of a local historical society, and as a co-contributor to a municipal historic cemetery project.  Without fail, I have been impressed by her depth of knowledge, tenacity, patience, and insight.  Daryn commits to projects tirelessly, and is able to synthesize documentary research and an analysis of physical evidence and to communicate her conclusions with exceptional clarity.  Most importantly, she engages personally with the history that she researches, helping to bring to life the stories left behind in documents, structures and material culture.

Daryn's talents as a meticulous researcher, a keen architectural observer, and an avid history fan make her the perfect architectural historian.   She is always prepared and produces her thorough reports in a timely manner.  I highly recommend her to anyone who wants to know the secrets hidden in their Colonial closets.

Daryn Reyman-Lock has both the vision and the research skills necessary to bring history to life. Whether it's digging into paint analyses, ensuring reproduction textiles are period-correct in both color and pattern, or appreciating the importance of site-specific historic foodways, she understands "the devil's in the detail." An excellent communicator, she's passionate about her work ... and it shows.

Daryn works with several nonprofit institutions in Connecticut, including the Lockwood-Mathews Mansion Museum, where I have been the executive director for the past ten years.

Her contributions have been absolutely invaluable to this National Historic Landmark and working with her, I have realized that there seems to be no challenge too big for her to tackle.

As a twice recipient of a major industry award, I look for professionalism, vision and excellence and I know that with Daryn we will continue to reach important milestones in highlighting the history and significance of this major community asset.

I’ve been working with Daryn for several years to design and produce interpretive materials for New England historic sites, and must give credit where credit is due. Daryn is a consummate historian, curator and preservationist, and her research skills are formidable indeed. My experience has been that Daryn is willing to both work with, and challenge narratives when warranted, and to find deeper inferences by delving into the unknown to illuminate the larger picture. Daryn’s enthusiasm, abilities and people skills would be assets to any organization who may be considering her. From my viewpoint as a designer, it’s refreshing to work with a partner whose creative vision is in sync with my own.

I have had the pleasure of working with Dr. Daryn Reyman-Lock in my capacity as Conservation Director and her’s as the Historic Preservation Specialist for the Town of Westport for several years. Though our respective areas of land use expertise did not routinely overlap, when they did, I found our interactions always enlightening and informative. Dr. Reyman-Lock is a wealth of knowledge. Her passion and commitment to Historic Preservation is beyond the pale. However, I also observed her fair dealing and willingness to work with property owners to achieve their goals while at the same time preserving whichever significant historic features were present. In addition, I found her to be forward thinking in her involvement with planning efforts for the future preservation of historic structures whether it be planning for sea level rise and or wholesale rezoning of historic neighborhoods in Westport. Overall, I found Dr. Reyman-Lock to be a dedicated, hard worker and will miss working with her.

Daryn Reyman-Locke has come to East Shore Middle School for the last 4 years to speak to our sixth grade students about archaeology and the ancient world. She was so well received by the students who were riveted to her presentation. Her slides and artifacts stimulated much interest and questions from the students. Daryn volunteered to speak with the students to pass on her vast knowledge about topics that she is passionate about. Her presentation was original, thought provoking, and perfectly crafted for our sixth graders. Her high energy and enthusiasm were contagious and kept the students engaged and looking for more. Daryn is one of the most intelligent people that I have ever met who is dedicated to her work. Her presentation generated so much interest that the students talked about it for days. Daryn inspired several of them to think of a possible career in archaeology when they are older. She is organized, easy to work with, and a great communicator. Anyone who works with Daryn should consider themselves very fortunate.

Dr. Daryn Reyman-Lock was my Foundations of the Western World professor during my first semester as an undergraduate student.  Daryn is a one of a kind professor for many reasons.  The passion she has for the past is unmatched.  The life she is able to breathe into documents, artifacts and historical beings as if they were present in the classroom as she spoke about them is an incredible thing to witness.  Daryn’s unique perspective to teaching motivates and engages those around her in a way that ensures success to those who want to learn.  Her genuine respect for not only her students, but the work she does is infectious.  Daryn’s excellent communication and rapport with her students is also something to be praised.  Questions and/or concerns about specific topics or assignments have always been answered in a timely fashion and to the fullest extent.  As a result you will undoubtedly learn and retain a considerable amount.  Dr. Daryn Reyman-Lock is by far one of the most competent and personable professors I have ever had.

As a member of the Westport Town Attorney’s office, I have had the pleasure of working closely with Dr. Reyman-Lock in her capacity as Westport’s Historic Preservation Specialist over the past (two?) years.  During that time, Dr. Reyman-Lock has shown great competence in her field and enduring dedication to historic preservation, and she has always approached her responsibilities with great care, thoroughness and insight.  I have observed first-hand the appreciation that members of the public who have dealt with Dr. Reyman-Lock have of her – a testament to her fairness, transparency and willingness to think outside the box and find solutions.  Dr. Reyman-Lock is highly capable, respectful and courteous and will unquestionably be an asset to any organization or individual utilizing her services.

As the Historic Preservation Specialist for the Town of Westport, Daryn sought excellence for her position, the Historic District Commission (HDC) and the town’s land use departments.  She transformed an assignment to a higher level of professionalism and sophistication by categorizing studies and historical resource inventories to their respective properties, so the town’s commission could make well-informed decisions.  Her work was motivated by a mission for accuracy, integrity and sustainability.   She also sought process improvements such as collaboration with other departments, recommending commissioners for the HDC, technology enhancements and the roll out of metrics to support her departmental budget and operations.  While Daryn has moved on from this role, she has left a legacy that will no doubt endure time and challenges, while continually enabling enhancements.  Daryn continues to work with the Town of Westport on special research projects and grant writing to complete the work that cannot be completed by existing staff.  She is an invaluable resource for our town.

I first worked with Daryn when, as a college freshman, she volunteered to work at the Greenwich Historical Society. She continued to volunteer during the summers of her college years—working with me on installing exhibitions, doing condition reports for all the loans, and the inevitable paperwork that goes with it—as well as projects for the archivist.

When Daryn returned to the US following her PhD, she came back to work with me and the archivist on a number of projects including the coordination of a collection move, from both off-site and on-site storage, to our new museum storage and, for me, an exhibition. An American Odyssey: The Jewish Experience in Greenwich was a major exhibition, including the production of a catalogue. In order to coordinate all the moving parts, and knowing Daryn and confident of her capabilities, I turned over the registrars part in its entirety. She worked with the guest curator and the lenders, did all the paperwork for the loans, co-ordinated the loans in and out, did all the condition reports, and much more.

The move of the collection to the new museum storage would have been impossible without her. Daryn worked both with me and the archivist to identify everything that needed to be move and designate its new location. She oversaw the physical move of the collection.

Daryn is meticulous, diligent, careful with collection objects, and always gets her part of the project done on time. As important, however, she is a pleasure to work with.
