Daryn Reyman-Lock, Ph.D. founded Sawdust and Strata in 2020 to help provide services to individual homeowners, municipalities and museums. After serving as a historic preservation specialist in both official and volunteer capacities, Dr. Reyman-Lock decided to establish her own business to support local placemaking and public history throughout Connecticut.

She provides a number of different services including research, curation, collection management, site identification, grant writing and reports.

Now more than ever it is important to reconnect places with their past, highlight forgotten or less understood histories and preserve places of importance for future generations.

Dr. Reyman-Lock has worked with numerous non-profit institutions to assist in featuring the intrinsic history of and preserve the value that these buildings bring to the communities of which they are part.

As a historic homeowner in Fairfield, CT, Daryn has a love and a passion for resurrecting the historical elements of homes such as hers. The history of these unique places preserves its sense of place.

“Curatorial staff had worked with Daryn for years on a variety of projects, including exhibition planning and collection surveys, so when it was time for us to move our entire museum and archival collections to a new building I knew Daryn would be a great fit. She worked tirelessly with me to prepare our collections for the big move, carefully analyzing, arranging and rehousing materials to make for the smoothest possible transition. Her dedication to the project and good humor through the challenging bits contributed greatly to its success.”
